About

Amanda - Head Chef at Home

I grew up in a wonderful blend of Asian and European cultures. My family loved to cook and eat good food so mealtimes were always a major event at our house. But my relationship with cooking goes from being obsessive to I couldn’t be bothered. From searching for new recipes to try out on family and friends to let’s order takeout for dinner.

But we can’t always afford to eat out and eating cheese and crackers for dinner isn’t the healthiest option. So, I’m always looking for quick and easy ways to cook a meal. That led me to doing a lot of research and discovering the rice cooker.

Did you know that a rice cooker can cook rice (of course!) as well as vegetables, meat, eggs, cakes and more?

I started writing this blog to share what I’ve discovered about cooking with a rice cooker. My family and friends were always asking questions. What to look for when you’re buying a rice cooker? What’s the difference between the basic model rice cooker and other small appliances with more buttons? Which is the best value for money?

Well it’s not always about the price. But if cost is important, then I show you how to work out which product features matter to you. The Rice Cooker Buying Guide and product reviews can help you choose between the different products available to buy online.

There are tons of good and bad product reviews for rice cookers for you to read online.

But after days of reading, I was more confused by the different “expert” recommendations. So, I found the top rated rice cookers, ranked by customers, and compiled my own set of product reviews. My rice cooker reviews will help you buy the best rice cooker for your home and help you stay within your budget.

I also like to share recipes, kitchen hacks and cooking tips. My friends find these useful and a little bit surprising! Mainly because I’m not a serious “foodie” or experienced chef. I don’t follow Masterchef or the latest cooking shows on TV. And, I’m not obsessed about extravagant or hard-to-find ingredients. My main qualification is that I love to eat! Most often, it’s just me or my family eating together. I also like to have the occasional dinner party and cook for friends.

At times, I like to take the slow food approach to preparing and cooking a delicious, healthy meal. Other times, I want the fastest, easiest, no-mess, no-fuss way but still be able to put tasty food on the table. I also love collecting ideas for preparing meals and well-tried cooking tips. Over the years, I’ve cooked my fair share of gluggy, tasteless, burnt rice. I’ve read about all the different types of cookers – what people like and don’t like about them.

Along the way, I’ve learned a few tricks and techniques to prepare tasty meals using a rice cooker. I found that cooking with a rice cooker saves time and this kitchen mainstay is versatile – more than I expected. There are so many things you can cook in a rice cooker. Not only different types of rice and grains but also potatoes, pancakes and pasta. And that’s just the P’s of the food groups!

So, if you like to cook and find yourself looking for ways to make cooking easier and less time-consuming then this blog is for you!

I recommend you start by reading my Rice Cooker Buying Guide . Then dive into the rice cooker product reviews which are grouped to make it easier for you to search and find the best rice cooker based on the most important feature you’re looking for. What is important to you? Small or medium to large capacity rice cookers, digital rice cookers or multi-purpose cookers.

If there’s something you think I should add or review, please let me know. I’d also love to hear about your rice cooker recipes or any tips you’d like to share with my readers. Reach out to me by visiting my Contact Us page here.

Enjoy reading and happy cooking!

Cooking is like painting or writing a song. Just as there are only so many notes or colors, there are only so many flavors – it’s how you combine them that sets you apart.
